Medicinal Name: Euphrasia officinalis

Properties: anti-catarrh, astringent, anti-inflammatory

Treatment: allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis, wet runny nose.

Description:

Eyebright relieves inflammation and tightens mucous membranes and finds specific use in the treatment of conjunctivitis and blepharitis. Its ability to counter mucus means that it is often used for infectious and allergic conditions affecting the eyes, middle ear, sinuses, and nasal passages.

Preparation:

Infusion- pour a cup of boiling water onto 1 teaspoonful of the dried herb and leave to infuse for 5–10 minutes. This should be drunk three times a day.

Caution: Eyebright counters liquid mucus, it is valuable for sinuses with a runny nose, or of a wet nature, it should never be used for dry and stuffy congestion, which will be made worse by the plant’s astringent property.
