50g (1.76oz)
Medicinal Name: Stellaria media
Common names: starweed, satin flower, or mouse-ear
Properties: emollient
Treatment: itchy skin, eczema, varicose ulcers, hives, obesity
Description:
Chickweed can help to soothe eczema and other skin conditions. Chickweed is chiefly used to treat irritated skin, being applied as juice, poultice, ointment, or cream. In certain cases, chickweed may soothe severe itchiness where all other remedies have failed. It is often used to relieve eczema, varicose ulcers, and hives
An infusion of the fresh or dried plant may be added to a bath, where the herb’s properties will help to reduce inflammation—in rheumatic joints, for example— and encourage tissue repair. Chickweed may also be taken internally to treat chest ailments.
There is some suggestion that chickweed has an antiobesity action.
Preparation:
Infusion- bring water to a boil, then add 1-2 tbsp of herb then let simmer on very low heat for 15-30 mins, sweeten with honey, agave, or stevia leaf if needed.
Caution: If taken in excessive doses, chickweed may cause diarrhea and vomiting. Do not take during pregnancy.
